Most fence companies send a salesperson to your door and a subcontractor to your yard. At Inline Security Fence, the crew that quotes your job is the crew that builds it — setting posts, running boards, and walking the finished fence with you before we leave. That's not a policy. It's just how we work.

Would recommend!Posted on CP2026-06-09 With Jason's guidance and design, and Valerii and Ivan's construction and machinist skills we have a very secure and operable gate and fence. We would use them again.Posted on Daniel Svistun2026-05-27 We honestly could not be happier with the entire experience working with InLine security Fence. From start to finish, the process was smooth, professional, and stress-free. We had a commercial chain-link fence installed, and the quality of work exceeded our expectations. Their communication was excellent throughout the whole project. The crew showed up on time, worked hard, kept everything organized, and clearly knew what they were doing. You can tell they take pride in their work and genuinely care about doing the job right. The fence came out solid, clean, and professionally installed with great attention to detail. It’s hard to find companies nowadays that actually deliver exactly what they promise, but InLine absolutely did. We are very glad we chose them and honestly have zero complaints about the entire process. If you are looking for a reliable fencing company that does quality commercial work and stands behind what they do, I highly recommend InLine Fence.Posted on Pano Varelas2026-05-26 We hired Inline Security Fence to install a reinforced chain-link fence at our facility and were thoroughly impressed. Seattle has a way of testing fences. Nine months of rain, moss creeping up north-facing boards, wind off the Sound, and freeze-thaw cycles through winter that work loose posts set in a hurry. A horizontal fence that wasn’t built right will show it within two years, warped boards, leaning posts, gaps where there shouldn’t be any.
At Inline Security Fence, we’ve been building in the Seattle–Tacoma area since 2016. We know what the climate demands. That’s why we use only rot-resistant Western red cedar, set every post in concrete to depth, and fabricate all hardware in-house, so there’s no weak point in the chain we didn’t control ourselves.
The result is a horizontal fence that looks exactly as clean in year eight as it did on install day.
Horizontal fencing is the top choice for modern Seattle homes — and for good reason. The clean lines read as contemporary without being cold. The design creates strong visual privacy without making a yard feel like a box. And with the right wood and finish, it complements the natural environment rather than fighting it.
But horizontal boards are less forgiving than vertical panels. When posts aren’t perfectly plumb, or when the wood hasn’t been properly dried and sealed, horizontal boards warp, bow, and separate in ways that are immediately visible. There’s nowhere to hide the mistakes.
That’s why installation quality matters more on a horizontal fence than on almost any other style. Our crew sets every post to a level standard, selects boards for grain and moisture content, and fabricates all brackets and hardware in-house. When we’re done, the lines are straight, the gaps are consistent, and the fence holds its shape through whatever the Northwest throws at it.
Horizontal fencing works best on flat or gently rolling lots. If your yard drops more than two or three feet across the fence run, a stepped or racked horizontal design is still possible, but it takes more planning and precision than most contractors bother with.
We’ll walk your property and give you a straight read on whether horizontal fencing is the right call, what it will cost, and how long it will take. If a different style would serve you better, we’ll say so. No upsell, no pressure.
What we won’t do is build you a fence that looks great in a photo and fails in a year.
No Runaround. No Surprise Costs.
We come to your property, walk the fence line with you, and talk through exactly what you’re trying to accomplish — privacy, security, curb appeal, or all three. We ask the questions most contractors skip, like how the lot drains, whether there are roots or utilities near the line, and what the neighbor’s side needs to look like.
You get a detailed written estimate that breaks down materials, labor, and timeline. No line items that appear later. No “it depends” answers. If something is genuinely uncertain, we tell you why and what the range is.
The team that shows up is the team we employ — not a sub hired for the week. They know our standards because they’ve built to them on every previous job.
Together We don’t consider a job done until you’ve walked it with us and signed off. Any board that doesn’t meet your expectations gets addressed before we leave. The finished fence is backed by our 3-year craftsmanship warranty.
Western red cedar, without hesitation. It has natural oils that resist moisture and insects, it takes stain evenly, and it's been the right call for Pacific Northwest fencing for decades. We don't substitute pressure-treated pine — it's cheaper, but it doesn't hold up the same way in our climate, and it can off-gas chemicals that affect landscaping along the fence line. If budget is a real constraint, we'll talk through options honestly rather than quietly downgrade the materials.
Two reasons. First, horizontal installation is more labor-intensive — every board has to be level, and the margin for error is smaller because the lines are so visible. Second, horizontal fencing typically uses thicker, higher-grade lumber because the boards span wider and need to resist bowing. You're paying for a fence that's harder to build well. Contractors who price it the same as a vertical fence usually aren't building it the same way.
In most Seattle residential zones, fences under 6 feet don't require a permit. Over 6 feet, or in certain setback areas, you'll need one. Rules vary by municipality — Kent, Bellevue, Renton, and Kirkland each have their own requirements. We know the local codes for the areas we serve and will flag anything that needs a permit before we start. Pulling a permit without knowing the rules is how projects get stopped mid-build.
Boards that bow or cup within the first two years. Posts with any lean, especially on the uphill side of a slope. Inconsistent gaps between boards. Rust bleeding from hardware through the wood. These are symptoms of installation shortcuts — under-set posts, green lumber, hardware that wasn't stainless or hot-dipped galvanized. They're also exactly what our warranty covers, because we don't build that way in the first place.
Clean it annually — a low-pressure wash removes the moss and algae that build up on north-facing surfaces in our climate. Apply a quality penetrating oil or sealant every two to three years, ideally in late summer during a dry stretch. Check the base of your posts each spring; that's where moisture damage shows up first. A well-maintained cedar fence in Seattle should hold its look for 20-30 years. We'll walk you through a specific maintenance plan at your final walkthrough based on your fence's orientation and exposure.
Yes — but it requires a real approach, not a workaround. There are two methods: stepped panels, where the fence drops in visible increments that follow the grade, and racked panels, where the boards follow the slope continuously for a cleaner line. Which one is right depends on the grade, the design, and what the fence needs to accomplish. We'll look at your lot and give you a recommendation. A lot of contractors default to one approach regardless of fit. We don't.
Most residential horizontal fence installations are completed in 2-4 days. Commercial runs or projects with significant slope, multiple gates, or custom ironwork take longer. You'll get a firm timeline in your quote — and we mean firm. We've built a reputation in this area on showing up when we say we will and finishing when we say we will.
The crew. Most fence companies at our price point are scheduling subcontractors — crews they don't directly employ, working multiple jobs, with inconsistent training and no personal stake in your project. We employ our team directly. They weld and fabricate in-house, they've worked together on hundreds of projects, and they know that the warranty we offer comes out of our pocket — so they build it right the first time. That's not a marketing line. It's the reason our clients in commercial construction, the petroleum industry, and King County public projects keep calling us back.
You can spec the same Western red cedar, the same concrete mix, the same post depth on two different fence jobs and end up with dramatically different results. The difference is the hands building it.
Most fence companies sub out the work. They take the quote, they take the margin, and they hand your project to whoever is available that week. When something goes wrong — and on a subcontracted job, something usually does — there’s nobody to call who actually built the fence.
At Inline Security Fence, the crew that gives you a quote is the crew that shows up with the posts. They’re on payroll. They’re trained in-house. And when we walk the finished fence with you, we’re standing behind work we did ourselves.
That’s why our 3-year craftsmanship warranty means something. It’s not a document we hand you hoping you never use it. It’s a commitment from the people who built your fence that they built it right.
